My Story
Alisha Liggett, MD known as Dr. Alisha, is the founder and executive director of Empower Her Health, LLC. She is a board certified family medicine doctor, with a clinical practice based in the New York City metro area. She graduated with a bachelors degree in African American Studies from Columbia University, then earned her medical doctorate degree from University of Maryland, Baltimore.
After completing the Family and Social Medicine Residency program at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, she completed a fellowship in HIV primary care at Montefiore Medical Center. Since completing her training, she has honed her passion for reproductive health and has worked in clinics caring for medically underserved clients from cradle to grave. She has authored several published articles, trained dozens of health care practitioners, and taught health education seminars in her community.
Through her own personal experience as a patient dealing with health care bias and complications of preeclampsia during her first pregnancy, she brings a unique insight to her work as a Black birthing person, and as a doctor. She blends her medical knowledge, and her personal experience to provide culturally centered health education focused on justice, and improving improving the patient experience for Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) individuals.

She is bilingual in Spanish, and a mom to two children. She loves being a doctor, an advocate for her community, connecting with people, and bearing witness to the triumphs in their lives.
